Margaret ‘Peggy’ Phillipo, age 75, of Westmount passed away on Saturday, January 24, 2026, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital with family by her side.

Born in Florence, Nova Scotia, she was the daughter of the late Isabell Young-Smith and James (Snack) Young

Peggy enjoyed shopping, personal shopping, and online shopping; her shopping continued until her last breath when she asked the nurse where she could purchase the comfortable hospital bed and the lovely pillows. Although the grandchildren were the love of her life, Disney characters were a close second.

She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Donald Andrew Phillipo; sons, Donald (Treena) Phillipo, Troy Phillipo; daughter, Irene McKenzie (Ian Hennebury); brother, Carter (Celeste) Young; sister, Irene (Randy) Croft; and special niece, Vanessa. Peggy is also survived by nine grandchildren; Daniel MacKenzie (Grace), Bryce MacKenzie, Ethen Phillipo, Drew Phillipo, Gavin Phillipo, Rheanna Phillipo, Keegan Phillipo (Emily), Treyton Phillipo, and Brooklynn Phillipo; she is also survived by three great-grandchildren, Levi MacKenzie, Axel Phillipo, and Delilah Phillipo.

Besides by her parents, Peggy is predeceased by brothers, Jimmy Young, Cecil LeBlanc, and a sister, Linda Newton.

Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 6 Churchill Drive Sydney, 902-539-7175. A Celebration of Life will take place at a later date.
