Robert (Bob) Ernest Mitchell
Glace Bay, N.S.
On Thursday, January 15, 2026, the family of Robert (Bob) Ernest Mitchell learned of his passing. Bob was born in Ontario on July 1st, 1959, to Mary (Hillier) Mitchell and William Mitchell. He later moved to Cape Breton with his family as a teenager, where he developed a lifelong love of hockey.
Bob met his wife, Mary Margaret Mitchell (Fowler), and together they raised three children: Colin Matthew, Justin Thomas, and Leanne Margaret (Bona). Bob and Margaret shared more than 40 years of life together.
Bob took great pride in his work as a small engine mechanic, working alongside and for his father, who was not only a colleague but also his closest friend and greatest support. He also dedicated approximately a decade of service as a volunteer firefighter in Glace Bay, a role he was deeply proud to hold.
Bob was predeceased by his mother, Mary; his older brother, Bill; his mother-in-law, Joan Fowler (Nearing); and his father-in-law, David Fowler.
He will be remembered by his father; his sister, Effie (Eddie Royal); his brother, Richard (Theresa); his three children; and his five granddaughters: Emma Jane, Veda Faye Patricia, Mira May, Clover Joy, and Ophelia Joan Monroe. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Bob will be dearly missed by his wife, Margaret.
In his later years, Bob faced personal challenges that affected both his health and his relationships. These struggles were a significant part of his journey and left a lasting impact on those who cared for him.
Cremation has taken place. Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance of Bob’s life on Monday, January 26, 2026, from 12:00–2:00 p.m. at TJ Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve Street, Glace Bay. 902-849-4199.
