I was fortunate to have met Shelon for a brief time. When I would visit him at the hospital he always “begged me to stay longer” Nonetheless, it is like we knew each other forever. To me, though Sheldon’s memory will last forever in our hearts, something very real has occurred. Nonetheless, his spirit lives on and as for me personally, his memory will never be forgotten.
Sheldon’s life-force will spring again in a “spiritually renewed way” to sustain us. It is said that death is not “after life” but more appropriate “beyond life”. It is timeless and space less. Sheldon is in the life of God. Sheldon is now part of the “Divine Banquet”, the Celestial Feast which he so richly deserves. St. John of the Cross tells us that the language of God is the experience He writes in our hearts. And surely, God did speak profoundly to him. St. Augustine once said “Our hearts were made for Thee, Oh Lord, and restless shall they be, until they rest in Thee”. Sheldon loved his family, his relatives and all his friends.
It can be said with confidence that: “Not far from now, not far away, we’ll be together, in friendship dear we’ll meet above to say: “hello”. He can watch us from up there as we go our diff’rent ways as he waits for us to meet us in the sky. Such is the promise of our faith “that we will meet again” and this is what gives us the hopeful anticipation and the courage to live our lives in the precious gift of love – to love as God loves.
Peace and Blessing to you,
Wilfred Gallant

My heartfelt condolences to the Canova family. Sheldon was born to be a teacher and a mentor . I was fortunate to meet Sheldon only a month or so ago in the hospital and we had a great discussion. I had the opportunity to tell him how his leadership and advise changed my life when I was a student at CBRVS. It was a moment we shared that will always be with me. RIP my friend.

So sad to hear about Sheldon’s passing. He was a man of character and was so clearly proud of his Italian culture. The last time I spoke with Sheldon was at the Canadian Tire store in Glace Bay in 2022. We shared so many stories we both forgot why we were in the store. He will truly be missed. Condolences to Sheldon’s family. Rest in peace my friend

I will always remember with a fond heart gathering at Gabrus. This one time, I was walking towards the bungalow and I asked uncle Sheldon, what is that is? It was something laying against the lamp post and it looked a lot like a peace sign. He said, what do you think it is? Always making you think, bringing out the intellectual. I looked, and I examined… I said, is that a whale vertebrae? Sheldon said yes, that is exactly what that is. Thank you for all of my beautiful memories.

Mr Canova taught me in C.B.R.V.S and was one of the best teachers I ever had! He was a remarkable teacher and I asked his brother a few months ago about him. I am so sorry to be reading this now. I wish I had the chance to tell him just how much he meant to his students, but I am sure he knew! RIP .. you were one of a kind and will never be forgotten!
