Paul Forrest Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Paul Forrest on the evening of January 19th at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.


Born in the Magdalen Island, moving to Cape Breton at the age of eight, before settling in Westmount; Paul and his wife, Polly, raised a family of nine children. Their doors were always open, making their home a gathering spot for all. Paul was known for his hard work ethic as well as his dedication to his loved ones. He enjoyed hunting and fishing in his early years; in his later years, he enjoyed a good game of cards with friends and family and never missed a Blue Jays or Habs game.


He worked several jobs through the years including Sydney Steel Plant. After landing a job at Sydney Engineering and Dry Docks, he retired after 40 years working as a foreman. He gained many lifetime friends.


Paul Forrest was predeceased by his wife, Polly; an infant girl at birth; his son, Paul (Peggy Tracey-MacKinnon); his parents, Louise and Edgar Forrest; and his siblings, Fred, Willy, Sr. Margaret, Ernest (Rita), Joseph (Mary), Albert (Alma), Armand (Diane), Art (June), Louise (Eugene) Leon, Jenny (Abbe) Foster, Ida (Emile) Grondin, and Lucy (Max) Samms.


Paul, affectionately known to his family as "Papa", is survived by his children; Ann-Louise (Danny) Bonang, Virginia (Jackie) Langille, John (Brenda), Barry (Ann), Rose (Lenny) Currie, Bruce (Deanna), Debbie (Scott) Rosborough, Nancy (Gordie) Schaller, and niece Diane Mugridge who was raised in the family home; his sister, Mable (Lonnie) House, and brother, Michael (Debbie). He is also survived by his grandchildren, Tony, Tim (Mary) and Andrew (Kirsti) Bonang, Tracey (Rami) Paez, Paul Forrest, and Paula Forrest-MacKinnon, Brad (Phany), Janet (Shannon) Langille, Rob (Jess) Forrest, Sara (Kris) Richards, Anna Currie, Brandon (Jess) and Tessa (Matt) Forrest, Holly (Keagan), Gordon and Ethan Schaller; his great-grandchildren; Daniel, Damian, Christopher, Josh, Carson, Avalon, Mack, Zachary (Brooke), Emma, Jace and Myla, Joel and Olivia, Seth and Owen; and his great-great-grandchildren, Stevie, and Tate.


Paul's family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Cancer Centre, Unit 4B, Palliative Care; and also, Dr. MacInnes, Dr. Weagle, Dr. Fitzgerald, Dr. Murphy, and Dr. Giomo.


In lieu of flowers, please send donations in Paul's honor to The Heart and Stroke Foundation, The Cape Breton Cancer Centre, Palliative Care, or to a charitable organization of your choice.


Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 6 Churchill Drive, Sydney, NS, 902-539-7175. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, January 24, from 11 am – 1pm, funeral service following at 1 pm in the Chapel, Rev. Sheldon Chant officiating, with a reception afterwards.
