Mark William Collier Obituary

Mark William Collier, age 71, passed away peacefully on his own terms surrounded by his family at the Halifax Infirmary on January 12, 2026.

Born and raised in Shad Bay, Mark was a proud fisherman for most of his life, working side by side with his father, sons, and nephews. In later years he continued to work hard driving dump trucks until his health no longer allowed him to.

Mark was a man who could do just about anything. He spent many years building boats with his father and was always lending a hand to family and friends doing odd jobs. One of his proudest projects was the grand front porch on his home, which he built by himself. He loved to sit out there on warm evenings - often in the company of family or friends and a good conversation.

He was a devoted fan of NASCAR and Formula 1, and if there wasn’t a race on, he was watching the news or a YouTube video. He knew a little something about just about everything, and he could always be counted on to share an interesting fact or some practical advice. He was rarely seen without his beloved dog, first Hugh and now Mick, both affectionately known as ‘Dad’s boy’.

Mark is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Susan; daughter, Jessica (Rodney); sons, Josh and Thomas (Rebecca); and his grandchildren, Ava, Lauren, Caleb, Zachary and Benjamin.

He was predeceased by his mother, Teresa and father, James.

His steady presence, blunt humour, and love for his family will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Special thanks are extended to Nurse Practitioner Vicki Guy, whose warmth and professionalism provided great comfort to Mark and his family in his final moments, and to his oncologist, Dr. Robyn Macfarlane, whose exceptional care helped him to surpass the odds and enjoy many additional years with his loved ones.

Cremation has taken place. Per Mark’s request there will not be a memorial service.
