John Murphy Obituary

John Allan Murphy

Reserve Mines, N.S.

It is with profound sadness that we the family announce the passing of John Allan Murphy age 73, on January 6, 2026, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, surrounded by his loving family who will mourn him deeply.

For more than 40 years, John worked as a roofer for Fosco Roofing, making many friends along the way. He was a member of the Canadian Legion Branch #78.

John loved all things outdoors. He was an avid hunter, enjoyed fishing and playing golf with his brothers. John for a great many of us was our go to guy. Whether it was a day spent with him rummaging for something we needed or just picking his brain for knowledge or advice.

If you reaped the benefits of his green thumb, you were fortunate. John’s favorite role in life was Papa. Making sure his babies, Kaleigh, Amber, Avery, and Devon were loved and taken care of in any way.

John is survived by his Rose (Meade) who together laughed and loved their way through 51 years of marriage; sons, John and Richard; two granddaughters, Kaleigh and Amber Saccary; his greatest loves his great grandchildren, Avery and Devon; sisters, Theresa, Marybelle (Darrell), Brenda, Millie (Eric), Noele, Colleen and older brother, Mike. He is also survived by sisters-in-law, Connie Russell, Gladys Meade, Theresa Murphy, Danette Murphy; brother-in-law, Stanley (Mary) Meade. He will be greatly missed by his gardening and hockey pool friend Sharon MacNeil, many nieces, and nephews as well as the mother of his grandchildren, Donna Saccary.

Besides his parents, Michael ‘Skipper’ and Brenda Murphy, he was predeceased by his brothers, Blaise, and Lonnie Murphy, who no doubt welcomed his with a cold beer, a round of golf and a big hug.

Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held Monday, January 12, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. in T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay, (902-849-4199).
