William Thomas MacNeil, 68

William (Billy) Thomas MacNeil, 68, of Glace Bay, passed on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, in Harbourstone Enhanced Care. Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Francis and Harriet (MacDougall) MacNeil.

Billy was a member of the Carpenter and Joiners Union, Local 1588, and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local 1852, and earlier in life, Billy was a member of the Dominion Kinsmen Club. He was a lifetime lover of animals, especially dogs, and he owned many.

Billy is survived by his former wife and friend, Melodie (McVicar) MacNeil; two sons: William (Billy)Francis MacNeil (Johnelle), and Grant Robert Thomas MacNeil (Alyssa); a daughter Janicelee Marie MacNeil; a brother Reggie MacNeil (Jeri); sister Catherine (Michael) Saccary; one grandson Jaxon Currie; as well as many nieces and nephews, especially special niece Nicole Saccary, Michelle (Saccary) Strong.

Along with his parents Francis and Harriet MacNiel, Billy was predeceased by a brother Barry, nephew Shaun Saccary, and many fur friends.

As per his wishes, Cremation has taken place under the care and compassion of T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay. 902-849-4199. Visitation will be held on Friday, January 9, 2026, from 3-6 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donation may be made to the Cape Breton SPCA, or charity of one choice.

Special thank you to the nurses and staff of Harbourstone Enhanced Care, where Billy lived for the past five ½ years.
