Age 62, Reserve Mines

It is with deep sadness that we the family announce the sudden passing of Michael Daniel Gallant, age 62, of Reserve Mines, on December 28, 2025.

Born in Gardiner Mines, Mike was the beloved son of the late Michael A. Gallant and Anna (MacDonald) Gallant. A hardworking and dedicated man, Mike was a proud member of Carpenters Union Local 1588 and spent the last number of years working in the oil and gas industry throughout Western Canada. Known as a skilled handyman and roofer, there was little Mike could not fix. Even more memorable than his skills was his enormous heart. Mike would help anyone, anytime, without hesitation.

Mike’s greatest achievement and source of pride were his children. He was incredibly proud of each of them and cherished the time he spent with them while they were growing up. He loved taking them camping and fishing and spending time outdoors, making memories that will be treasured forever. His son John, who was also his best friend, held a particularly special place in his heart.

Mike adored his grandchildren and savored every moment with them. He was well known for his jokes and his ability to make anyone laugh. You could often find Mike with his granddaughter Ella, pushing her on the swing, digging worms, or snuggled up watching a funny movie. Cherished for his infectious smile and kind heart, Mike will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Mike is lovingly remembered by his sons John, Alex, and Whoie (Jessica); his daughter MaryAnn “Dolly” (Michael); his brother Alex Gallant; his sisters Diana Brna (Frank) and Michelle McIvor; and his precious grandchildren Ryan (Alexis), Keegan (Kiara), Isabelle, Ella, Mya, Ryder, Katie, Cameron, Anthony, and Brooklynn. He is also remembered by the mother of his children, Ann Shirley MacGillivary, as well as his many nieces and nephews.

Mike was predeceased by his parents Michael and Anna Gallant, his sister Eileen Driscoll, infant sister Paula McBride, and his brother-in-law Fred McIvor.

Cremation has taken place under the care and compassion of T.J. Tracey Cremation & Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve Street, Glace Bay, Nova Scotia. 902-849-4199.

A Celebration of Life for Mike will be held on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, 2 p.m., with Fr. Dan Boudreau presiding.

Mike will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, love of family, and the laughter he brought into so many lives. His legacy lives on in the hearts of those who loved him and in the countless lives he touched.
