It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Jeanette Hiltz on December 25, 2025, while visiting family in Dieppe, New Brunswick.
Jeanette was born in Kentville in November of 1949 to the late Stanislaus Gaudet and Adele(Leblanc) Gaudet. She was the youngest of six children.
Jeanette was a loving grandmother, mother, sister, aunt, and friend. She enjoyed knitting and would make hats for the premature babies at the IWK. Working for several funeral homes such as Atlantic, and Snows as a receptionist; she had compassion that went above and beyond for grieving families. She truly cared about people and was well known in the Halifax area. Jeanette spent a lot of time at Public Gardens listening to the Jazz music or spending time at the waterfront and speaking with tourists and learning about their culture while at the same time, giving them tips on the best places to visit. She was a devout Catholic and attended church at Saint Agnes Roman Catholic Parish.
She is survived by her son Kevin Hiltz, daughter Kathy (Trevor) Howatt, brother Robert Gaudet, Sisters; Irene Hattie and Corinne Wetmore, grandson Nathan Howatt; and many nieces, nephews.
Jeanette is predeceased by her parents, brother Junior Gaudet, sister Rose Storms, and two sisters that died in infancy; Clara & Therese and many aunts and uncles.
Memorial Service/Celebration of Life will be held on January 5, 2026 at 11:00 AM at T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 71 McQuade Lake Crescent, Beechville (Halifax),NS. Lay Chaplain Jim Norton presiding. Interment will be at a later date in Kentville’s Holy Cross Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Nova Scotia Mental Health Association or the Canadian Breast Cancer Society.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Northwood in Halifax, especially the staff of 5A Manor.
