Charles “Junior” Barnstable, 72

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Charles “Junior” Barnstable, 72, of Glace Bay, on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, in the Glace Bay Hospital. Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Joe and Theresa Barnstable.

Junior was an absolute legend in the eyes of his children and grandchildren. He was generous, had a big heart and a silly side that he didn’t always show. His colourful language that would crack everyone up and the little jingle he would sing to all his pets.

Junior was a lobster fisherman most of his life. He loved being on the water and would light up when the fishing season started. Even after retirement, he would still be seen down at the wharf, with a tea in hand, chatting with the other fishermen.

He also enjoyed going on Sunday drives with his late partner Sandra prior to her passing.

Junior is survived by a son Cletus Barnstable and a daughter Theresa (David) Lawrence. Two sisters Rose (Clarence) Matheson and Barb (Dave) Burt, as well as two grandchildren Eva Barnstable and Joseph Barnstable.

Along with his parents, Junior was predeceased by a sister Brenda Barnstable and longtime partner Sandra MacDonald.

Cremation has taken place under the care and compassion of T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay, N.S. 902-849-4199. Visitation will be held on Monday, January 5, 2026, from 1-4 p.m.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Renal Dialysis Unit, Glace Bay.
