Jay Owen Murphy Obituary

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Jay Owen Murphy, 68, on Dec 1 2025 at the Dartmouth General Hospital. He passed away peacefully, surrounded by the warmth and love of his family. We are relieved he is no longer in any pain.

He is survived by his only daughter, Jacqueline, who was the apple of his eye, as well as his grandchildren, Mia and Max, and sister Susan Andrews, as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, George and Annie Murphy; two brothers, George and Cecil; as well as his two sisters, Gloria Ratto and Noreen (Eddy) Marsters.

Jay worked as a drywaller his entire working life, here in Halifax and in Calgary and Banff. For most of that time, he worked with his great friend, Keith Hollett, who maintained that friendship throughout his retirement years. Jay always looked forward to and enjoyed his visits. The thing that brought Jay the most joy was the time he spent with Jacqueline and her children. She always made sure that their time together was memorable.

Cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be held Sunday, January 11th 2026 from 1 – 4pm at the Royal Canadian Naval Association, Peregrine Branch 3660 Commission St. Suite C.
