It is with profound sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Paul Joseph Hayes on December 15, 2025, at the age of 66, at the Queen Elizabeth II Health Sciences Centre, Halifax Infirmary.

Paul was the devoted and beloved husband of Mary Hayes. He will be lovingly remembered by his mother, Marjorie (Hayes) Burchell; his sisters, Lynn Hayes and Chrystal Burchell; his son, Peter Hayes; his stepdaughters, Marsha LeBlanc (Jennifer) and Kelly LeBlanc (Mariah); his cherished granddaughter, Chloe Cairns-LeBlanc (Nick); his nieces, Tanya and Renee; and his extended grandchildren, Ben, Logan, Katie, and Jett. He will be deeply missed by his family, his in-laws, and many dear friends.

Paul was predeceased by his father, Laurie Hayes; his stepfather, Clarence Burchell; and his siblings, Wayne Hayes, Gerry Hayes, and Heather Hayes.

Born and raised in St. Margarets Bay, Paul had a lifelong love of the outdoors and enjoyed time on his four-wheeler, at his camp, and fishing. Known for his lively spirit, he often entertained others by playing the spoons and he treasured time spent with family and enjoyed conversations with friends over a cup of tea at Tim’s. Above all, Paul cherished the life he shared with his devoted wife, Mary. He will be remembered for his love of family, appreciation for nature, and warm presence, and the family takes comfort knowing he has been reunited with their beloved dog, Annabelle.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date to honour his life and memory.
