Anastasia "Stasia" Marie Danyluk Obituary

Anastasia Marie Danyluk – September 21, 1937- December 11, 2025

Glace Bay, N.S.

It is with profound love and heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our mother, Anastasia Danyluk, age 88, at her home in Glace Bay. Born in Sydney, she was the eldest daughter of the late Max and Frances ‘Fannie’ (Giacomantonio) Brygidyr.

Stasia graduated as a Registered Nurse from St. Rita’s Hospital and spent most of her career at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Glace Bay, serving as both a nurse and nursing supervisor. Family members often turned to her for health care advice, knowing they could always rely on her calm expertise.

In 1959, she married the love of her life, the late Edward ‘Eddy’ Danyluk. Together, they created a home that was open and welcoming to all—filled with family, friends, countless lively games of crib and tarabish, and many cherished trips abroad.

Upon retiring, Stasia and Eddy became devoted woodworking and home-crafting enthusiasts. Together with close friends, they founded a home-crafting association that welcomed cruise ship visitors from around the world—a predecessor to the Port of Sydney shops housed at the iconic Giant Fiddle.

Stasia was deeply proud of the contributions she made to the Cape Breton Cancer Centre over the years through the crafting association, as well as through her own personal support.

Stasia loved people and always made them feel special whether in her travels or at home. A remarkable cook, she never allowed anyone to leave her home without being fully and lovingly fed.

Mom and Dad also enjoyed spending summer vacations at their bungalow in Kempt Head where Mom taught all of us to swim in the beautiful Bras d’Or Lake.

Mom’s faith in the Lord was deep and unwavering. It sustained her through every difficult time, giving her strength, hope, and a remarkable sense of positivity.

She is survived by her daughter Andrea (Brian) MacDougall, daughter Paula (Kevin) Danyluk-MacDonald, son Kirk Danyluk, brother Maurice (Sheri) Brygidyr, sister Ann (Russell MacLellan) MacLean, grandchildren Allison (Denton), Ian (MJ), Andrew, Ella, and great-grandchildren Sam and Lily, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She is predeceased by her husband Eddy and sister Maria (Delorenzo) Baggio.

We would like to thank The Golden Girls Private Home Care, and especially Star Ward, for the unwavering, loving and compassionate care she gave Mom.

We are also deeply grateful to Dr. Mark Ellerker, Dr. Kevin McNeil, and the nursing staff of 3 East at the Glace Bay Hospital for the exceptional care and kindness they provided during Mom’s many illnesses and hospital stays.

Cremation will take place under the care and compassion of T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay. 902-849-4199. Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 18th, between 1-4 pm. A funeral mass, with Fr. Volodymyr Perun presiding, will be held at the Holy Ghost Ukrainian Church, West Street, Whitney Pier on Friday, December 19th at 10:00 am, immediately followed by a reception at the church hall. Livestreaming will be available through the T.J. Tracey Facebook page.

Donations in Mom’s memory may be made to the Glace Bay Hospital Foundation or the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Foundation.
