It is with heavy hearts that we the family announce the passing of Clarie Gillis on Thursday, December 11, 2025, at his home surrounded by is family.
Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Clarence ‘Clarie’ and Alice (Doyle) Gillis.
Clarie was employed at Stream for 23 years before retiring. In his early years, he was with the Town of Glace Bay, Parks and Grounds Department.
He enjoyed building things, and hanging out on roofs, playing darts, gardening, planting flowers, and watching TV; as a kid he enjoyed playing hockey and baseball.
Clarie is survived by his loving partner of 50 years, Ann MacDonald; his two sons, C.J. and Jason (Elisha); his pride and joy, Owen and Elice; brother, Alex (Michele) as well as several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Clarie and Alice; he was predeceased by his brothers Angus (Mel) and Bernie (Audrey).
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, December 16, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. with Fr. MacLeen officiating at T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay, NS B1A 4X2 (902-849-4199). Words of comfort may be sent to our website at www.tjtracey.com.
