It is with heavy hearts that we share the death of Judith Marylin (McKinnon) Wilmshurst of Hubley, beloved wife and mother, who passed away on December 7, 2025 in Halifax.
Judy was a mover, a shaker, wielder of the wooden spoon, and a force to be reckoned with. She wore many hats throughout her life—not only was she a doting wife to Brian, mother to Donald and Colin, and grandmother to Mary, but she was an accomplished nurse. Graduating from the Victoria General School of Nursing in 1970 she enjoyed a long career in the old and new Grace Maternity Hospitals. Judy was also a landlord, cook, baker, rescuer of greyhounds, and a had very brief, yet ultimately unsuccessful stint as an international smuggler of bedsheets and towels. (If you know, you know.) Judy enjoyed seeing the world and was an avid traveller with her family, visiting many places in Canada and the USA, as well as throughout Europe and the United Kingdom.
Judy is survived by her husband of 54 years, Brian; her sons, Donald (Brenda Brown) and Colin (Katherine Atadero); granddaughter, Mary Wilmshurst; brother, Matt McKinnon (Joan Anderson); sisters, Kathy McKinnon (Brian Teed), and Mary McKinnon; nieces, Jennifer McKinnon and Katherine Teed; nephews, Alex McKinnon (Kelly Wiseman) and Paul McKinnon.
She was predeceased by her parents, Donald and Vernice (Jordan) McKinnon; brother, Robert McKinnon (Barbara Duggan); and sister, Jane McKinnon.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at the Parkstone Enhanced Care facility, Mount Lane wing, for their excellent and attentive care of Judy, especially in her final hours.
The will be no funeral for Judy, however, a celebration of her life will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Alzheimer’s Association.
