Grayce Wynafred Rogers Obituary

Grayce Winnafred Rogers (née Hiscock), 78, of Glen Margaret, NS passed away December 1, 2025 at Maplestone Enhanced Care Centre in Fairview. Born in North Sydney, NS she was the daughter of Clifford Hiscock and Ethel (Hiscock) Francis.

An honours graduate of Mount Allison University (Class of ’68), Grayce was a teacher-librarian at Sir John A. Macdonald High School from 1971 to 2006, a position that enabled her to build strong connections with staff and students that would last a lifetime. She made it her personal mission to give comfort and support to all those around her, in many ways, big and small. She will be remembered for her unique ability to make people feel special, for her quick wit, and for inspiring people to see the best in each other and in themselves. The value Grayce placed on relationships was reflected in some of the things that brought her the most joy in life: organizing get togethers of her beloved Embers (a group of retired teachers), participating in her regular book club, and spending time with other close friends and family.

Grayce’s many talents included an exceptional skill for writing and editing, which assisted the publication of numerous books and led to the creation of her own children’s book, “Canadian Maple Syrup – A Sweet Adventure” and an adaptation of “Anne of Green Gables” for early readers. She enjoyed meeting new people and learning new things: from serving as a Director on the Learning Network Board, to working the front desk at Oceanstone Inn, and experiencing different parts of the world (from Turkey to the Yukon). She was an avid birder: a feeder, a watcher, and a protector of her feathered friends.

Grayce is survived by her husband, Richard of 55 years; and two sons, Blake and Owen.

She was predeceased by her father, Clifford; her mother, Ethel; and her brother, William.

A loving wife, mother, daughter, and friend, Grayce made the world a brighter, better place. She will be greatly missed by the many people whom she loved and who loved her.

A Celebration of Life will be held in May, 2026 in T. J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hope for Wildlife or a bird sanctuary of the donor’s choice.

The Rogers’ family would like to extend a special thank you to everyone involved in Grayce’s care this past year, most notably, her ever-supportive friends, and the kind and caring staff at both the QE2 Neurological Ward (Unit 7.3) and at Maplestone Enhanced Care Centre.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to T. J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 71 McQuade Lake Crescent, Beechville, NS, B3S 1C4. To leave words of condolence for the family please visit: www.tjtracey.com.
