Margaret "Maggie" Nichols Obituary

Margaret Elizabeth Nichols (nee Slade), age 76, of Halifax Nova Scotia passed away on December 6, 2025.


Maggie was the youngest child of 7 and had 3 brothers (Charles, William and Jason) and 3 sisters (Jean, Jane and Anne), all of whom are deceased except Anne. Maggie graduated from Oxford High School and went to the University of New Brunswick to qualify as a Physical Education Teacher. Maggie taught at Keswick Ridge Elementary School in Fredericton where she gave birth to her son Jason in1973.


A few years later the family emigrated to England where Maggie continued teaching in Sunderland and Cornwall. One of her memorable teaching moments was coaching an adult lady’s basketball team that went on to receive many titles in the Devon area. Maggie returned to Canada in 1998 and settled in Halifax.


Maggie’s favorite food was Indian chicken korma and her motto to live by was “Keep a smile on your face even if you are feeling grumpy, for it will pass”. With her motto in mind, she had become known as “the card lady” who freely gave a card to someone whether there was a special event or not.


Maggie is survived by her son Jason; daughter in law, Erica; and grandsons, Ethan and Oscar.
