Lorne Hugh Campbell Obituary

Lorne Hugh Campbell, 78

My kind and gentle father was born on May 8, 1947, and passed away on Dec. 1, 2025. Dad was the oldest of 12 children, born in the town of Inverness to parents Findlay Campbell and Mary Campbell (MacKinnon). Lorne and his wife married in Broad Cove chapel, in Broad Cove C.B., in 1976. They then went on to build a beautiful life in Halifax and spent a lifetime of love, laughter and togetherness for 46 years.

Lorne is survived by his one and only child, loving daughter Megann Conrad (Andrew), and his two grandchildren, Drew and Lily Conrad. He is also survived by his brothers, Joe, John, Angus, Kevin, and Paul; his sisters, Claire and Marie. He is also survived by his wife’s brother and sisters: Marie (Wayne), Michelle, Betty (Mose), Natalie (Robert), and Lloyd (Pamela). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Dad loved home, and loved his time with the Murphys, especially his father-in-law, Mike.

He is predeceased by his cherished wife, Karen; his parents; his sisters, Gloria and Geraldine; and his brothers, Basil and baby Gerard.

Dad was a faithful man of God and attended Sacred Heart Parish for many years in Timberlea, and later Saint Marguerite Bourgeoys in Tantallon. He served with the Knights of Columbus for many years and enjoyed every Mass, listening to the Word and listening to his wife and daughter sing in the church choir. Dad was a hard worker and worked for Postal Services for 30 years. Once he retired, he and Mom enjoyed the camping life at his camper on Lake Ainslie. His grandchildren would spend many summers with Nana and Poppy, gathering so many great memories.

Dad loved electronics and had taken small electronic repair in trade college. He had many, many computers, gaming systems, gadgets, watches, and most of all, radios and flashlights. Dad was a man who was kind and gentle, quiet and soft-spoken. I will always have memories of his gentle ways. Dad also loved his wife and could not wait to be reunited with her again. Dad loved animals of all sorts, especially dogs. Dad loved music and listening for hours to folk music, especially Gordon Lightfoot, Eric Bogle and Stan Rogers. Dad also had a wonderful sense of humour and had a particular smile that everyone called “The Lorne Smile”.

Dad will have a private funeral Mass with family, December 13th, 2025, at 11am, in Saint Marguerite Bourgeoys Parish in Tantallon. We will also have a memorial in the spring of 2026, in Dunvegan, Cape Breton, where everyone is welcome. It will be listed in the Inverness Oran as the time approaches.

Dad is gone to live a life of eternal love in the arms of Jesus.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia or your local SPCA.
