Brian Stewart Obituary

STEWART, Brian Frederick, aged 75 of Bedford, passed away on November 30, 2025.

Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late, John Thomas and Annie Isabel (McIntosh). He will be forever missed by his wife, Elaine (Murphy); daughter, Cathy; son, Dan (Kristin); and his long-awaited, much-anticipated, pride and joy, granddaughter, Ada.

Dad was a Knight of Columbus (2519 Assembly and Council 7077), as well as a very proud fifty-plus year member of the Royal Canadian Legion (Calais Branch 162). Every Saturday for over 40 years, he could be found in the kitchen baking fresh bread for his family. He was a Red Seal electrician and past President of IBEW Local 625. As a younger man, “Tiny” worked his trade across North America, finishing his career with the Department of National Defense in Willow Park, making close friends along the way who he treasured and spoke fondly of until the very end. Some of his happiest memories were of summers spent at the cottage in Eglington, PEI, where he enjoyed many a campfire or adventure with extended family and friends, both new and old.

Brian was predeceased by brothers, Donnie and Jack, Eric and Raphael in infancy; sisters-in-law, Flo, Bev, Sheila, Joanne, Sylvia, Fran, and Carolyn; and brothers-in-law, Dave, John, and Fred.

He is survived by brothers, Butch (Lorrie), Wayne, Kevin (Mary), Mickey (Ted), Roy (Haruko), Bruce; sister, Carmen (Victor); sisters-in-law, Brenda and Colleen; brother-in-law, Larry; his cherished nieces and nephews; and many close friends.

Although living with dementia made his later years difficult at times, he never lost his zest for life or his compassion for others. The family wishes to thank the staff and participants at the Northwood Adult Day Program, who filled many of Dad’s later days with care and laughter as he enjoyed “stirring the pot.” The only thing bigger than his frame was his heart, or perhaps his wit and sense of humour.

Visitation will be held in T. J. Tracey Cremation & Burial Specialists at 71 McQuade Lake Crescent, Beechville, NS, B3S 1C4 on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, from 4pm-6pm. Funeral mass will be in St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Bedford on Thursday, December 4, 2025, at 12:15pm with reception to follow in the Knights of Columbus Hall at 252 Cobequid Road in Lower Sackville.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Alzheimer’s Society of Nova Scotia, his favourite charity Operation Smile Canada, or simply do a good deed for someone else.
