Cecilia McIntyre Obituary

Cecilia McIntyre, 92

Dominion, N.S.

It is with deep sadness that we the family of Cecilia McIntyre, of Dominion, announce her passing at home on Friday, November 28, 2025. Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late John and Elizabeth (Bessy) Gouthro.

Cecilia spent most of her career serving the Town of Dominion, beginning as a bookkeeper, and eventually retiring as Town Manager. Her professionalism, dedication, and steady leadership earned her the respect of those she worked with. She helped guide the town through years of growth and change, always advocating for the needs of the community she cared so deeply about. Cecilia’s door was always open, and people knew they could count on her for fairness, kindness, and compassion.

All the while, she raised nine children, balancing the responsibilities of motherhood with her commitment to her work. Her ability to manage both with grace became one of the qualities people admired most about her.

She loved playing cards-especially club nights with her sisters, friends, and sister-in-law—she volunteered for many years with the CWL at Saint Eugene’s Parish, contributing her time, energy, and talents to parish events and community outreach. Cecilia’s generosity extended far beyond formal roles: she quietly supported neighbours, friends, and families in need, never seeking recognition.

One of her greatest joys was baking and cooking. Anyone who dropped by her home could count on being welcomed with a warm meal and homemade sweets and tea in no time. Her hospitality became well-known in the community, and many remember her kitchen as a place of comfort, conversation, and laughter.

Christmas was her favourite time of year. Cecilia hosted annual celebrations for her coworkers, and Christmas Eve at Mom’s/Nannie’s became a beloved family tradition. She passed down many traditions to her children---most notably her famous cabbage rolls, which remain a treasured part of family gatherings.

Throughout her life, she cultivated many interests and enjoyed countless adventures with her closest friends, including bowling and long walks on the beach. Cecilia loved crossword puzzles, knitting, making quilts—she had a gift for creating things that brought warmth to others.

Cecilia was not only the matriarch of her large family but a pillar of strength for her extended family and her community. People turned to her for advice, comfort, and support, and she gave it freely. Her legacy lives on in the traditions she passed down, the lives she touched, and the community she helped shape with her kindness, dedication, and unwavering care for others.

Cecilia is survived by sons: Paul McIntyre, Sean McIntyre (Tanya), and Ross McIntyre (Sheri); daughters: Lori McIntyre (Ted), Helen Truckair (Wes), Gail Aucoin (Glen), Cheryl Buchanan (Jerome), and Karen McIntyre; sisters: Lorna McDonald and Theresa Campbell; Fourteen grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.

Along with her parents, Cecilia was predeceased by her husband Joseph McIntyre, son Gary McIntyre, sisters Olive Shaw, and Mary (Dolly) Walker, brothers Mathias Gouthro, Vince Gouthro, and John Gouthro.
