Christopher William George Lang, MMM, CD
Halifax, N.S.
I have decided that my time has come as I want to leave on my terms, Christopher William George Lang, MMM, CD.
Born in Schrieber, Ontario on the first of July 1951. I leave behind my loving wife of 50 years Edna Irene Lang, also my Son Cdr Dean Lang (wife Holly), Son CPO2 Byron Lang (wife Joleen) and my daughter Dr. Ashley Lang (husband Colin) and my pride and joy, all my grandchildren. As well as my extended family and all my former shipmates and friends I have made over the years. Shout out to my sidekicks, Garnett and Dan, we have covered many miles together. I was predeceased by my parents Mary and Edward Lang and sister Jennifer.
I joined the Royal Canadian Navy in 1968 as a Boatswain, serving almost 37 years on numerous HMC ships. My career highlights were the commissioning of HMCS Protecteur, CBM of Terra Nova during the Gulf war, Coxswain of HMCS Iroquois, multiple stints at Sea Training Atlantic and also serving on HMCS Algonquin, Saguenay, and Fraser. Despite wearing the rank of Lieutenant (Navy), I was most proud of being known as Buffer.
I retired from the RCN in 2005, after swearing in both my sons to start their naval careers. After retirement I volunteered my time with hockey Canada, SEA university cups for Basketball and Hockey, and member of the executive committee of ICEJAM Showcase U18 Hockey.
I leu of flowers, donations in my name can be made for Cancer research and the SPCA. In keeping with my wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation or service. A private family gathering will be planned at a later date, with my ashes to be spread at sea when my son is CO of a Naval ship.
I want to express my sincere thanks to Dr Farooq and the staff at the Cancer Centre VG Site and Staff on the chemo unit. Keep up the great work! Also, a special thanks to Vickie from MAID who made my last day very comforting.
I recommend listening to the Fiddlers Green by the Irish Rovers to understand where I have gone.
Arrangements have been entrusted to T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, Beechville, Halifax, N.S.
