We the family of William “Bill Lloyd” Butler are heartbroken to announce his passing on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, in the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, with his loved ones at his side. Born in St. Johns, Newfoundland, he was the son of the late Howard and Ethel (Hillier) Butler.
Bill spent 23 years serving in the Military. He also worked for 13 years as a Technical Support Person. Bill had a passion for Photography. In 1999 Bill and Theresa made the decision to make Cape Breton Island their home, and this is where he became interested in photography, taking many photos of this beautiful island.
Bill is survived by his wife Theresa (Osmond) Butler of 46 years; two sons: Matthew Butler, of Glace Bay and Christopher (Hazel Tan) Butler of Abbotsford, B.C.; one grandson Jaxon Butler of Glace Bay; siblings: Elizabeth (Bill) Butt of Markdale, ON, Randy (Grace) Butler of St. Johns, Nfld.
Along with his parents, Bill was predeceased by a brother Gordon Butler of St. Johns, Nfld.
Cremation has taken place under the care and compassion of T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay, N.S. 902-849-4199.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, December 1, 2025, at 11 a.m., in Tracey’s Funeral Home, Glace Bay.
The family of Bill Butler would like to extend a very heartfelt thank you to the doctors and nurses in the Palliative Care Unit of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
