Daniel Joseph Yurchesyn Obituary

It is with profound and unimaginable sadness that we announce the passing of our Daniel Joseph Yurchesyn, who left us on November 22, 2025, at the age of 37. Born in Sydney, Nova Scotia, Daniel was the beloved son of Corinne and Dave Yurchesyn.

A proud graduate of Riverview High School, Daniel went on to attend NSCC Marconi Campus. Over the years, he completed many training courses and was always looking for ways to better himself. He had a true entrepreneurial spirit, always “wheelin’ and dealin’”, as he loved the art of a good sale, and we often said that he should have owned his own store.

Daniel had a kind soul and a heart that was big, soft, and endlessly generous— sometimes to a fault. He was a loyal friend and loved his friends and family deeply. He had a playful, quick-witted nature and was the first to laugh at his own jokes. He loved movies, music, and considered himself a karaoke star, where his renditions of Bruce Springsteen, Bryan Adams, and Blue Rodeo made for some good entertainment for all of us. Some of Daniel’s happiest times were spent at our cottage, one of his favourite places in the world. There, he could often be found kayaking and swimming on the Bras d’Or Lakes.

Daniel leaves behind his loving parents, Corinne (Hogan) and Dave Yurchesyn; his twin brother, Andrew, with whom he shared a deep and irreplaceable bond; and his sisters, Kathleen (Andrew Doucet) and Jillian, who adored his quick wit and his big heart. He will also be deeply missed by his cherished grandfather, Steve “Papa” Hogan. Daniel is also survived by many aunts and uncles Joanne, Stephen (Lisa); Cary (Stephen); Michael (Arlene); Gary (Debbie); Brian (Bonnie); Paul (Blanche); Joann (Tony); Brenda (Craig). As well as many cousins who loved him dearly.

Daniel was predeceased by his maternal grandmother, Nanny Rosella Hogan, and his paternal grandparents, Nanny Mena and Papa Johnny Yurchesyn, as well as our family dog Casey, whom he adored.

“Accept your children for who they are. Don’t try to change them. Instead, celebrate their differences and learn from their perspectives, being sensitive to how others see the world. Love your kids unconditionally. There was a lot of beauty within Daniel, and we will miss him every day, forever.”

A private family service will be held to celebrate and honour Daniel’s life.

To honour Daniel’s life, we encourage you to donate to Loaves and Fishes or the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Foundation in lieu of flowers.
