James Nelson Reginald Polkinghorne Obituary

It is with gratitude for his life and broken hearts at his loss that we announce the sudden passing of a wonderful loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.


James Nelson Reginald Polkinghorne was born in Orillia, Ontario on November 5th 1940 and grew up in Coldwater. He was the eldest son of Lorne and Helen (Woon) Polkinghorne.


Jim joined the Navy and sailed on HMCS Bonaventure; he proudly worked for 30 years as a Halifax firefighter.


He leaves behind his loving wife, his best friend for 65 years, Sharon (Mannette) Polkinghorne. His daughter, Jayne (Dave); son, James (Yvonne), Davy (Nui); his precious grandchildren, Dailyn (Calvin), David (Hailey), Wilhelmina, Selena; and his precious great grandsons, Sawyer and Sullivan.


He also leaves behind his three brothers, Joe, Peter (Lana) and Ted (DN).


A celebration of his life will be held on Monday, December 1, 2025 at 2pm in Saint Andrew’s Anglican Church in Timberlea.


Our family would like to thank Dr. Robert Scovill for his many years of care for him and also all of the nurses and doctors who cared for him at the QEll Halifax Infirmary Hospital, we are so grateful.
