Audrey Ross Obituary

Audrey “Kay” Ross (nee Barker), aged 81 years old of Halifax, Nova Scotia, passed away peacefully on November 14th, 2025 at Halifax Hospice. Born in Georgetown, Guyana, she was the daughter of Molly Barker, Aubrey Barker, and Mable Barker.


Kay moved to Prince Edward Island to study at St. Dunstan’s University and University of Prince Edward Island. After she completed her degree, Kay worked with Prince Edward Island’s department of Health and Social Services until retirement. After retirement she worked at Island Regulatory Appeals and the Federal Government’s Embracing Change Coordinator. Kay served as a member of St. Patrick’s Church Restoration Committee, West Indian Commonwealth Society, Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Women’s League and volunteered with St. Vincent de Paul’s Society.


Survived by Michael Ross, Rachel Ross, and Bernadette Vanneste (Robert Bishop); sisters, Cheryl (late David) DeGroot and Myrtle (Rudolph) Brandt; and grandchildren, Elijah Mantley, Jonah Mantley, and Ewan Bishop; and numerous nephews and nieces. Kay is survived by special friend Reynold Burrows and son-in-law Shawn Mantley.


Predeceased by husband, Donald Ross; parents, Molly Barker, Aubrey Barker, and Mable Barker; and sisters, Valerie (Roger) Lauzon and Elisabeth (Mark) Harper.


Celebration of life will be held December 4th, 2025 at 11 a.m. at Stella Maris Parish located at 6 Michael’s Ave, Halifax, officiated by Father Francesco Pirisi. Interment will take place at a later date at Joachim’s Church cemetery.


In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Vincent de Paul’s Society or Halifax Hospice.


Special thanks to the doctors and nurses with the following departments: Ear, Nose and Throat; Cancer Care; and the Palliative Health care team. We have immense gratitude to the incredible doctors, nurses, staff and volunteers at the Halifax Hospice. We sincerely appreciate the kind words, memories, visits, flowers, and messages from Kay’s family and friends during her battle.

Our family gives special thanks to the special circle of Sisters for their support of Kay and our family throughout this time.
