Devon Gerard Burke
Glace Bay, N.S.
It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Devon Gerard Burke, who left us far too soon. Born and raised in Glace Bay, Devon grew up loving the ocean. From an early age, he joined his father on the boat, learning the dedication and hard work of lobster fishing—something he took great pride in.
Alongside his love for the ocean, Devon had a lifelong passion for sports that brought him joy and friendship throughout his life. In his younger years, he could be found at the rink, playing the game he loved most—hockey—first with Glace Bay Minor Hockey and later with the Glace Bay High School Panthers. When summer arrived, he traded his skates for a ball glove, spending countless hours on the baseball field. Whether on the ice or the diamond, Devon’s determination and passion made him a fierce competitor.
Devon is survived by his father, and best friend, Robert Morrison; mother, Tracey Burke; sister, Ashley Burke; brother, Daniel Burke; grandmother, Donna Burke; grandfather, Kevin (Ginny) Burke; great-grandmother Nanny Kaye Burke, aunt Cherie (Dave) Grabmann; aunt Cindy (Shaker) Myme; uncle Jimmy (Shirley) Morrison; Uncle Barry Morrison; nephews, Hudson and Kohen; cousins Scott, Jimmy, Bobby, Emily and Megan; and his cat, Candy.
Devon was predeceased by his loving grandmother, nanny Diane; and Rufus, his loyal dog of 18 years.
Though Devon faced many challenges, he met them with courage and resilience. His journey was not always easy, yet he remained a devoted son, a loyal friend, and a soul who touched the hearts of those who knew him.
A special thank you to the nurses, doctors and staff at Cape Breton Regional ICU, Staff at Halifax Rehab, and the nurses, doctors, and staff at Halifax Infirmary.
His family takes comfort in knowing he is now at peace, free from struggle, and surrounded by the calm he so deeply deserves. Devon will be forever loved and profoundly missed by his family and friends.
Cremation has taken place under the care and compassion of T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay. 902-849-4199.
