Noel Delano Fletcher Obituary

It is with deep love and cherished memories that we announce the passing of our beloved father, grandfather, brother, and uncle Noel Delano Fletcher (aka Taddy). Noel was the beloved son of Gosford (Poppa Gossy) Constantine Fletcher and Violet Justina Fletcher (née Mattadeen), aka Mama Dolly.

Born and raised in Jonestown, Kingston, Jamaica, Noel lived a full and vibrant life that touched family and friends from Jamaica, the United Kingdom, America and the world beyond.

In his early years in Jamaica, Noel worked as a merchant marine, fisherman, and vehicle mechanic — trades that reflected his industrious nature and love of the sea and craftsmanship. He was truly a man of many talents, known for his hands-on skills and sharp mind. He left his mark on his daughters’ homes in more ways than one.

Noel’s life was rooted in family and friendship — bonds built by love and loyalty, whether through blood or chosen kin. His smile could light up any room, a smile as bright and warm as the Jamaican sun. He will be fondly remembered for his many passions: An avid Manchester United supporter, he also enjoyed sitting on a wall/dock fishing. His love of music especially 70’s Jamaican Reggae including Bob Marley and the Wailers, Peter Tosh, Dennis Brown to name a few. His music tastes were wide and varied as he was known to throw on some early Shania, Reba, Ella, Nat, Harry Belefonte, Duke Ellington and many more. His love for music has definitely been inherited by his grandchildren.

Noel was not a fan of eating out, but he sure enjoyed cooking (everything he grew up eating in Jamaica) and even learning to make homemade Jamaican Patties from scratch. It was never surprising to see or smell his BBQ on the go, no matter the day or time or weather (even in snowstorms and rain).

An avid reader with a fondness for JD Robb’s Eve Dallas series, Janet Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum Series, Louie Lamour to name a few, as well as word searches (you’ll find many waiting to start, finished and unfinished around his house and in his car, suitcase and jacket pocket (just in case). He would recite line by line of every NCIS (with Mark Harmon) and even have introduce to his English nieces and family. He loved to skunk you at cribbage, and dominoes or Ludi. He was an avid traveller, he loved spending time working in and around his house, in his garden and flower beds. Noel always enjoyed a good clean or dirty joke as long as you appreciated being happy, he was intent on making you laugh.

He was a connoisseur of and savoring good whiskey, enjoying when he could Jamaican Red Stripe Beer and Holsten Maibock. Noel’s style was unmistakable — he loved his Jamaica mesh marinas, cargo/camouflage gear, baseball caps, leather and denim jackets, and when the occasion called for it, he could step out in a sharp, dapper suit.

He also shared a special bond with his granddoghter, Parra Pher-Nalia Fletcher, who brought him great comfort, amusement and companionship.

Noel Delano Fletcher lived his life with humor, strength, and love — a true man of the people, a craftsman, a storyteller, and a “crazy” Jamaican who was young at heart who was the most awesome dad, who will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

He leaves behind to carry on his legacy his dear sisters Amy (Princess) Robinson (nee Fletcher) and Beverley Bucknor (nee Fletcher), his loving daughters Violet Justina Fletcher and Sharon Annmarie Borden (nee Fletcher); his adored grandchildren Kayla Patrice Annmarie Borden, Nathaniel Alexander Harding, Klorizzea Chris Susan (Fred) Russell, Justin-Roger Eslie Fletcher, and Jason Percy Noel Fletcher. He was also blessed to know his great-grandchildren Jazmine Borden-Everett and Elijah Russell, who brought him endless joy.

Noel was a proud uncle to many nieces and nephews — Marlene, Barrington, Maureen, Michael (Tony), Deborah, Patricia (Wayne), Brian, Sheldon, Michelle, Paul (Tony) , Melissa, Melinda, and LaKeisha, and great-uncle to Shelly Ann , Javaughn, Syriah, Jordanne , Arrielle, Cameron Jack, and many others.

He is remembered lovingly by his extended family of cousins, aunts, uncles, friends, and coworkers, and his cherished UK family through the Robinson/Lawler and Fletcher side, along with special mention of his added daughter Lee and grandchildren Elisha, Claire, Delano and Ariah.

He was predeceased by his, paternal grandparents (Richard and Rose Fletcher), and maternal grandparents (Charles and Alice Mattadeen nee: Nahall) along with his parents, as well as his brothers Cornell, Samuel, and Earl and sisters Rose Mary Walters nee: Fletcher and Dellis Nairne nee: Fletcher and Udine Hudson. Also, his nephew Devon Palmer, great nephew Armani Nairne as well as his brothers in law: Anthony (Spuddy) Nairne and Keith Robinson and sister-in-law: Ivy Fletcher.

Donations can be made to the Boys and Girls Club, of Spryfield in his memory.

He will be remembered by many as a man of laughter, skill, and heart. May his soul find eternal peace, and may the laughter, stories, scent, sounds and memories he leaves behind continue to inspire all who knew and loved him. He is loved and he loved us ALL.
