Peter “Peck” McNeil, 84

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Peter “Peck” McNeil of Glace Bay (formerly Reserve Mines), at the age of 84. Peter passed peacefully in his sleep at Victoria Haven Nursing Home, November 12, 2025.

Peter was born and raised in Reserve Mines. He was a proud miner for many years up until his retirement. Peter had a great love for music and he deeply enjoyed camping, fishing, and hunting with his close family and friends in his younger years. He would often tell stories about his adventures fishing and hunting with the late Peter Gillis, whose company he loved.

Peter is survived by his sons Peter (Nancy) with whom he lived for years and Terrance “Terry” (Lori), his former wife Bernadette (Gillis) McNeil and their children; Patrick (Tammy) and Marlina. His Grandchildren Felicia (Joel), Tadd, T.J. (Bri), Sarah, Laura (Jon), Morgan, Breton, and great-grandchildren Delilah and Aoife. Peter is also survived by his sisters Mary Campbell and Ann Pasher, brother Alex (Ann), and special sister-in-law Barb McNeil.

Peter was predeceased by his parents Joseph and Elizibeth (Gaigneur) McNeil. His partner Karen Kennedy, first wife Dorthy (Drinkwater) McNeil, and stepdaughter Jean-Marie. As well as siblings Joseph, Anthony, Archie, Willie, Johnny, Mariah, Lucy, Madaline, and two siblings in infancy.

A special thank you to Dr. Ley and the staff of Victoria Haven Nursing Home for being there for Peter.

Cremation has taken place and a graveside service will be held Friday, November 14, 2025 at 11:00 am in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, MacLeod’s Rd., Glace Bay. A Celebration of Life to follow at Tracey’s Funeral Home.
