Donald Ian Murphy Obituary

We are saddened to announce the passing of Donald Ian Murphy, 72, of Halifax on November 6, 2025, at home. Born in Tatamagouche, Ian was the son of the late Donald and Helen (Steele) Murphy.

Ian was famous for his corn chowder, love of music (the Beatles in particular), and always providing everyone with a good laugh. He had a heart of gold, was so caring and generous, and always looked out for his family. Ian was a very selfless person, never focused on himself, and always concerned with the wellbeing of others.

He is survived by his loving partner, Lillie King, of 25 years; sons, Donald (Lisa), Donald (Tamara), Matthew (Heather), Luke (Emilie); daughter, Grace (Clayton); sisters, Carolyn (John), Iris (Johnny), Patricia (Steve), and special mention to the Young family who were like siblings to him throughout his life. Ian is also survived by his grandchildren, Drake, Chloe, Emma, his “little angel”, Lucy, and his great-granddaughter, Violet.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Carolyn.

The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to his caretakers, friends, and neighbours who supported him during his illness. Your kindness and love will never be forgotten.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Shelter Nova Scotia which provided emergency housing and support for people experiencing homelessness in Halifax.
