Glace Bay

It is with heavy hearts that we the family announce the peaceful passing of Jimmy Nearing, age 67, on November 2, 2025, at the Glace Bay Hospital.

Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late James and Annie (White) Nearing.

Affectionately known as Spook, he was a Jack of all Trades, painting being his most recent.

Jimmy enjoyed watching the Toronto Blue Jays, the Maple Leafs and the Kansas City Chiefs; he also enjoying cooking, going fishing and picking blueberries, Jimmy especially loved spending time with his family at many great gatherings.

Jimmy is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 21 years, Cathy (McInnis) Nearing; two sons, Milan and James; two grandchildren; daughter, Melodie; three sisters, Anna (Skip), Barbara (Terry) and Susan; sisters-in-law, Karen (George) and Laura (Kevin); brothers-in-law, Allan (Krystal) and Victor; nieces and nephews, Jamie, Tammy, Nicole and several others; as well as his pets, Snowball, Snoopy and Sandy.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his mother and father-in-law.

Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 8, 2025, from 10 to 11 a.m. with a memorial service to follow at 11: 00 a.m. with Fr. Norman MacPhee presiding, taking place at T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay, NS (902-849-4199).

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cancer Society. The family of Jimmy would like to thank the doctors, nursing and staff of 3 West of the Glace Bay Hospital for the care and compassion giving to Jimmy during his stay there.
