With broken hearts we, the family of Raymond George Armstrong, announce his sudden passing on Sunday November 2, 2025, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
Born in Sydney on March 17, 1942, he was the son of the late Doug and Mae (Snow)Armstrong.
Ray had a long and fulfilling 35-year career with the Sydney/Cape Breton Regional Police until his retirement in March 1999. He was a loyal and proud member of his community establishing CB Regional Police Boys and Girls Clubs, Skateboarders Skating Pad, East Division Merchant Watch and the Community Police Office.
Ray loved his sports and could always be found in his favorite chair watching boxing, horse racing or his beloved Jays. He always had a good story to tell.
He will be forever missed by his loving wife of 60 years, Joanne (MacDonald); his son, Kevin (Courtney); daughters, Raylene (Kelly), and Lisa (Duane); his grandchildren, Linden, Brenden, Madison, Kelsey, Courtney, Remy, Bryce, Bryanna, Sidney, Tyler, Cody, and Hunter; and also by his 4 great grandchildren, Lexi, Brady, Layla and Aleigha. Also surviving is his brother, Bill Armstrong (Gerald), sister-in-law Florence (Sheldon) Chant; nephew, Aaron, and niece, Meredith.
Ray was predeceased by his first-born son, Allen; brothers, Gordie (in infancy), and Doug; his mother and father-in-law, Duncan and Alice (MacKinnon)MacDonald.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 6 Churchill Drive, Sydney, NS, 902-539-7175. Visitation will take place at the funeral home on Sunday, November 9, from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Marguerite Bourgeois Parish, Cabot St. Sydney, on Monday, November 10, 11 am, Fr. Bill Burke officiating. A reception will be held after the funeral mass at T.J. Tracey Funeral Home. A private burial in Hardwood Hill Cemetery.
