Sarah Evelyn Agnes Mosley MacMillan Obituary

Sarah Evelyn Agnes Mosley MacMillan passed away at home in Halifax on October 29 2025 after a long struggle with IPF. Born in Glace Bay, the daughter of the late Harold and Marion Mosley, SarahLyn attended Morrison Glace Bay High, and was active in Girl Guides, school musicals, church choirs, and studying piano. She completed her BA at Mount Allison University and a BEd at Dalhousie University. Along the way, she mostly dropped the Sarah and became Lyn to friends, colleagues and community.

Lyn spent almost 30 wonderful years at Duncan MacMillan High School imparting her love of Shakespeare, and a well written paragraph, to two generations of Eastern Shore students. Her expertise stretched over the years to cover World Geography, Sociology, Economics, History, and whatever course needed an excellent teacher. Her red pen was as well known as her ability to bake chocolate chip cookies for the neighbourhood kids on Saturday mornings.

With grace and energy and love, she combined her teaching career with being a wonderful wife and mother and later a doting grandmother. In her busy life she always found time to read a good book and complete her crossword puzzles.

Retirement allowed her to reluctantly leave our beautiful home in Sheet Harbour to settle in Halifax where she was close to our children and grandchildren. She enjoyed 22 lovely years of retirement filled with books, puzzles, being a fan for her grandkids’ baseball and basketball games, followed by soccer games, and 4H exhibitions, while still producing chocolate chip cookies for another generation.

Lyn is survived by her loving husband, Kevin, whose hand she started holding in 1968 and did not let go until the early hours of October 29 2025.

Lyn is survived by her children Claire(Justin) Baker, and Eric(Paula) MacMillan. She will be missed by her adored grandchildren Nick(Raya) Baker, Matthew Baker, Sam MacMillan and Lincoln MacMillan. Lyn is also survived by her sister Barb Murphy, brother-in-law Donald(Joan) MacMillan, and sister-in-law Lorna MacMillan. Her survivors include a collection of nieces and nephews who have ventured across the country and the Atlantic.

Predeceased by her parents, her sister Anne Rowe, brothers-in-law Frank Murphy, Blaine Rowe, Alex MacMillan, Billie MacMillan, Wayne Garbutt, sister-in -law Frances Garbutt, Carol MacMillan.

In accordance with Lyn’s wishes, cremation has taken place, and her ashes will be scattered in a few of the beautiful spots in NS that made up parts of our scenic drives. Memorial donations may be made to a local food bank if anyone so desires.

Kevin and the children wish to thank the amazing health care system in NS for her care, especially over the past year. We are eternally grateful to our Palliative Care Team for their support and kindness and for enabling her to stay at home with us.
