It is with deep sadness that we, the family of Mavis Morrison, announce her passing at the MacGillivray Guest Home in Sydney on October 24, 2025.
Mavis was born to Byron and Rosie (Petley) Crawford on April 6, 1936, in Minto, New Brunswick. She was predeceased by her parents and husband, Donald A. Morrison; son, Findlay (Verola); brothers, Clifton and Harvey Crawford; sisters, Nora Crawford, Della Keddy, Olive Hubley, Goldie Crawford, and Marvel Tribe. She is also predeceased by her very best friend and companion, Douglas G. Jackson.
She is survived by her son, Clifford (Margaret Ann) Morrison; daughter, Shanna (Anthony) Lespere; and daughter-in-law Verola Morrison. She was a proud grandmother to eight grandchildren of whom she loved deeply:
Elizabeth (Evan), Claire (Mathew) and Lynn (Roozbeh) Morrison; Brett (Megan), Linnea (Morgan) and Brock (Janica) Morrison; and Khiari (Kolbie) and Kali (Andrew) Lespere. She is also survived by five great-grandchildren: Ava, Sawyer, Mia, Kacey, and Lily. She was overjoyed to know that the family she treasured so dearly would soon welcome two more great-grandchildren this winter, with Linnea expecting her first child and Claire her third.
Mavis was known for her generosity, kindness, playful sense of humor, and her steady support for anyone who needed it. She valued good company and conversation, and her home was a cozy, warm, and welcoming place for family and friends to gather. She expressed her love through the meals she cooked and the treats she always had ready, insisting that they were enjoyed, whether you arrived hungry or full.
She built and nurtured many strong, loving friendships and especially cherished her grandchildren with the same devotion, celebrating each milestone and accomplishment.
The dedication that Mavis poured into her family was mirrored by the commitment she showed while working across various departments in the (then) Sydney City Hospital, where she was highly regarded by her colleagues and administration. Similarly, she took great pride in the beauty parlour she owned and operated in Sydney River.
In her later years in life, Mavis found her greatest joy in spending her days with her companion Douglas, sharing many adventures, laughs, and creating countless memories.
Our mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, and friend will be missed so dearly.
The family would like to thank Cindy and Jean for their time and care, which helped Mavis remain in her home for as long as possible, and to Jody and her staff at MacGillivray Guest Home for making her transition one filled with peace.
Cremation has taken place under the care and the direction of T J Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists. There will be no visitation. As per her wishes, a private service with immediate family will take place at a later date. Memorials may be made to the MacGillivary Guest Home or other charities of choice.
