Dad was a respected carpenter and contractor across Cape Breton, beginning his career with Maritime Builders and rising to foreman. His craftsmanship and integrity left a lasting mark, from pouring foundations to building homes for CMHC and families throughout the island.
In retirement, he found joy in his garage, creating cherished woodwork pieces for his loved ones. A devoted grandfather, he shared countless stories, laughter, and love. His humor and warmth lit up every room.
Known for his wonderful kindness, Jim was deeply committed to his community. He played a key role in developing Mira Pines United Church Camp—a cherished site of spiritual growth and connection along the Mira River, fondly remembered even though it no longer operates. He also led the 1985 expansion of Bethel United Church, reflecting his enduring faith and generosity.
He moved to Halifax a year and a half ago to be closer to his daughters. Through health challenges, he remained gracious and grounded, offering quiet wisdom until the end.
He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
Until we meet again, Dad—thank you for everything. We love you.
Our heartfelt thanks to the dedicated staff of the second floor at Arbourstone Enhanced Care in Halifax, NS, for their compassionate care and support during Dad’s final years. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Oakfield Cemetery, Hillside Road or the Marion Bridge Volunteer Fire Department in honour of his memory.
A funeral service will be held at Bethel United Church, Marion Bridge, on November 15, 2025, at 1:00 p.m., with Rev. Norma Mills officiating. A time of fellowship and remembrance will follow. Interment will take place afterward at Oakfield Cemetery, Hillside Road.
