Julia Ann Knowles, 51
Glace Bay, N.S.
It is with heavy hearts that we, the family of Julia Ann Knowles, announce her sudden passing at the age of 51 in Sydney, Nova Scotia on October 20, 2025.
Julia was born and raised in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia. Over the years, Albert Bridge, Lunenburg, and Mahone Bay were all places she lovingly called home.
Julia is survived by her daughter Jeanie (Kennedy) Hynes, son Gabriel (Emily) Hynes, granddaughter Eden Hynes, sister Leah Knowles, and many family members and friends that she loved dearly.
Julia was predeceased by her parents Kevin and Jean Knowles. Julia’s time with her mother was cut short, but the memory she cherished kept Jean’s spirit alive in our family. She often shared Jean’s words of wisdom, reminding us that “he who hesitates is lost” and “fooling leads to seriousness.” Julia shared an unbreakable bond with her father whose love, guidance and friendship were among the greatest joys of her life.
Julia had a love and talent for art, often creating paintings of her own. She was an avid reader, crafter, always appreciated a good shoe, and cared fiercely for her people. She leaves behind her beloved cat, Willow, who brought her companionship over the last few years.
In honoring Julia’s memory, the family wishes to encourage open conversation around mental health - remembering the importance of support and awareness. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia.
Cremation has taken place under the care and compassion of T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay, N.S. (902-849-4199), and a graveside service will be held at a later date.
