With heavy hearts and tear-filled eyes, we announce the sudden passing of Gail Margaret MacDonald on October 14, 2025, at the age of 71.
Gail was a devoted Catholic who always approached life with love and compassion for her fellow people. She was well-loved and will be deeply missed. She was always described as a gentle soul who would help anyone. Her passing was unexpected, just five months after her husband had passed away following a long battle with lung cancer. She spent the majority of the last two years taking care of him and spending every minute she had with him, making sure he was comfortable. He was her everything.
She was a cosmetologist in Mississauga, where she met her husband, and they became inseparable. They did superintendent work and enjoyed spending all their spare time together. Eventually, they decided to move to Cape Breton after her husband's health declined, choosing to live their final days there. Gail started a new journey as a care worker, working for Cape Care and with private clients providing key care. She ultimately worked at the Northside Guest Home until she reached 65, when she retired to spend time with her husband. They were married for 47 years, and their anniversary would have been on the 20th.
Gail enjoyed spending time with her daughter, granddaughter, and pursuing crafts like crocheting and diamond art. She was always bragging about how much she loved her granddaughter. She was an angel on earth.
Gail passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by loving memories. She is predeceased by her parents, Ellen Latanville (Midland) and John Latanville (Midland), and her husband and life partner of 47 years, Norman MacDonald (North Sydney).
She is survived by her daughter, Dawn MacDonald-MacIntosh (North Sydney); her granddaughter, Sadie MacIntosh (North Sydney); her siblings, Carol Blakey, Barbara Conroy, Mary Elford, Karen Garbutt, Kathy Kennish, and Tim Latanville (all from Ontario), along with their spouses, nieces, and nephews; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
We would like to extend special thanks to Dr. McKeough, Emergency Health Services, and the Cape Breton Regional Police.
There will be no visitation, and cremation has already taken place. May God welcome her and her husband into the kingdom of heaven, reunited with loved ones who have been missed for far too long.
Please direct any flowers or donations to the TJ Tracy Funeral Home.
