Billur Uğursal, age 71, passed away in Halifax on October 3, 2025. Born in Istanbul, Turkiye, she was the daughter of Tomris Atillasoy and Atilla Arpat.

Billur grew up in Turkiye and Switzerland and was of Hungarian origin. She had an exciting young adulthood in Istanbul working as a flight attendant for Turkish Airlines while completing a degree in psychology at Istanbul University and an education degree simultaneously. She moved to Halifax in 1978, returning to Istanbul in 1979. She completed her master’s in psychology at Bosphorus University and returned to Halifax in 1981. Soon after, she began working as an Early Childhood Educator at St. Joseph’s Children’s Centre. Billur later practiced psychology both in her own private practice and in a variety of hospitals, clinics, and organizations in Halifax and other parts of Canada, and continued to do so until her passing. She was passionate about her work and was always in pursuit of learning more.

Billur loved to read, write, and listen to music - particularly Michael Jackson. She was a spiritual and creative person who was naturally funny, loved a good laugh and a good cup of tea. She enjoyed trying new things and was an avid knitter and animal lover. She lived in many places and touched many lives.

Billur is survived by her daughter, Yasemin (Kirk and Joachim); and her sisters, Nilüfer, Lâle, and Maria.
