Frederick Brent Clarke

Brent Clarke of Donkin, Nova Scotia was welcomed to his eternal place of rest with family at his side in Halifax on October 5, 2025.

Born in Glace Bay, Brent was the son of Mae Budden and “Bobby” Clarke. He started his career in the R.C.M.P. at the age of 19, leaving Donkin-Morien District High before graduating.

Brent was posted to various places in Manitoba over his first seventeen years in the force where he made many life-long friendships. During one of his visits home, he met Glynis Morford, whom he married in 1986. After three children and three more moves, he retired to Donkin and settled on the Clarke family property.

After retiring, Brent took up selling insurance, financial planning, breeding Labrador Retrievers, beekeeping, gardening, and tending to his beautiful yard. He and Glynis enjoyed their hockey trips when the children were younger and more recently, they travelled to visit their children and grandchildren in Canada and the United States.

Brent, Glynis, and their family treasured spending time at their bungalow on the Mira River, enjoying boating, fishing, bonfires, relaxing, and visiting their neighbors.

While residing in Donkin, Brent was involved in St. Luke’s United Church, coaching the junior high hockey team, Neighborhood Watch, and community activities.

Brent felt very fortunate to have attended his 50th R.C.M.P. Reunion in Regina, and to be with his troopmates again. On the way home, he stopped in Manitoba and rekindled old friendships in many parts of the province.

Brent is survived by his wife Glynis (Morford); son, Evan (Kaylea) Clarke; daughters, Alyssa (Brent) Blankenship and Rebecca Clarke; brother, Robert (Alice) and brother-in-law, Roddy Boutilier. Also left to miss their grandfather are his ten beautiful grandchildren, River, Lauren, Nash, Clarke, Greyson, Axl, Trip, Lennox, Hall and Miller.

Brent was predeceased by his parents Mae and Bobby Clarke, sister Dorothy Boutilier, his stepfather, Willie Frank Matheson, parents-in-law Victor and Rosa Morford, as well as his best friend since childhood, Warren “Boo” Boutilier.

Thank you to the hospital care givers at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, the QEII and the Victoria General Hospital.

Memorial donations in Brent’s memory can be given to the Nova Scotia Heart & Stroke Association.

Funeral Mass will be held in St. Lukes Anglican Parish, Port Caledonia, on Saturday, July 4, 2026, at 11 a.m.. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of T.J. Tracey’s Funeral Home, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay, 902-849-4199.
