We the family regret to announce the passing of Nancy Marie Hayes in hospice, lovingly surrounded by family and friends.

After losing her mother, Druscilla, in infancy, Nancy was raised by her maternal grandparents, Tossie and Martha Macpherson.

An employee of The Cove Guest Home for over 20 years, Nancy truly loved caring for her residents. Nancy’s caring nature crossed over to her affection for friends and family; she could always be counted on, without a doubt. She had a huge heart and was only too happy to cook and bake—specifically to share with others. You could always expect “Good Morning” texts and weather reports from Nancy, which we will miss so much.

Nancy had a passion for shopping, often looking for the very best deals. Flyer day was certainly one of her favourites. Also, she loved watching curling and attending tennis matches with her family in Toronto.

Nancy is survived by her brother Robbie, her niece Kristen (Cameron), her nephew Matthew (Sarah), and the apple of her eye, grandniece Sophie.

Nancy is also survived by her sister Aliesje (Jay) and nephews Keagan (Holly) and Conner (Evan).

Besides her mother, she was predeceased by her maternal grandparents, Martha and Tossie MacPherson, and her father, Bernard Hayes.

Nancy will be deeply missed by her uncle Matthew; her aunts Catherine (Johnny), Neila, Theresa, Elaine, Mona, and Irene; her beloved cousins Cathy, Kenny, Janet, Bernice, and Lynn; as well as her friends, Lexie, Tracy, Margaret Jean, Lindsey, Sherry and Lori.

Thank you to the staff of Hospice Cape Breton for the kindness you extended to our family. Your attention to Nancy’s comfort and dignity during her care was greatly appreciated.

As per Nancy’s wishes, there will not be a service. Cremation has taken place under the care and compassion of T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay, 902-849-4199.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, the SPCA or a charity of your choice.
