Heather Olive Farrell Obituary
It is with profound sadness that we, the family of Heather Olive Farrell (Samways), announce the passing of our beloved mother and grandmother. Heather passed peacefully on July 29, 2025, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, surrounded by family and friends.
Heather was predeceased by her parents, Oliver and Nina Samways; her brother, Dale Samways, and the love of her life, her husband, Dave Farrell. She leaves behind her most precious treasures, her children; sons, Sheldon Whitty and Brian Gautier (Ashley); daughter, Nena Whitty (Maxx); loving stepdaughters, Gail Morris (Norman), and Marcia Lafford (Andrew), as well as her cherished grandchildren, Blayne, Aliyah, Irelyn, and Novah, and step-grandchildren, Sherman, Willis, Jody, Trista, Storm, Jacklyn, and Kay.
Heather will be deeply missed by her cherished lifelong friends, Agnes (Aggie) Hogan, Willena Burke, and Lynn MacIntyre; her beloved Carang Drive neighbours who came to feel like family; and especially by Kim Marks (Shane), her neighbour and chosen daughter.
Heather devoted much of her life to caring for others, whether behind the desk and on the phone as a medical secretary or offering gentle, compassionate support as a Continuing Care Assistant. She brought grace, humor, and love to every role she embraced. A friend to all, Heather had the rare gift of turning strangers into lifelong friends. Her kindness, quick wit, and generous heart left a lasting impression wherever she went.
She was also an avid baker, whose kitchen was the heart of the home; filled with laughter, love, and the smell of turkey, gravy, warm rolls, and her perfectly flaky pies. Heather’s cooking wasn’t just delicious, it was a reflection of her care and love. Her famous rolls became symbols of family togetherness, shared stories, and celebration. If you needed a hot meal or someone to talk to, Heather was always there without hesitation, arms open and heart full.
Heather also shared a special bond with her cat, Tiger, her loyal companion and sidekick. Tiger was rarely far from her side, curling up beside her as she read, baked, or enjoyed a quiet evening watching TV. Tiger is now snuggled up with his adoptive mother and Heather's longtime friend Linda Covin. Linda, thank you for taking care of Heather's most beloved companion.
The family extends its deepest gratitude and a very special thank you to Dr. Kylene MacKillop, the doctors, nurses, staff, and ICU team at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital for their unwavering compassion and gentle care. A special thank you to Dr. S. Hall and his staff, Tessa, Diana, and Shelley. In her final days, their kindness brought comfort not only to Heather, but to all of us. Their dedication and grace will never be forgotten.
Poppie, Nanny Nina and Dale are waiting for you.
We love you to the moon and back, Nanny. Your warmth and love will forever live on in our hearts.
