Dr. Samir Abdelmalek Obituary

Dr. Samir Abdelmalek passed away at the age of 92 on July 19, 2025, in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Born in Qena, Egypt to faithful parents Toma Saad and Adeba Shenouda. He graduated from Ain Shams University Faculty of Medicine and was the second class that ever graduated from Ain Shams University. Dr. Samir specialized as a radiologist and moved to Port Said with his wife, Ilin Girgis, and raised his two sons, Ehab Saad and Tamer Toma. He became a well-known radiologist in the city where he cared for all his patients with love and faithfulness. Above all, Dr. Samir was a devout Christian, instilling the love for God in his children’s and his grandchildren’s lives, leading by humility and compassion. He relocated to Canada permanently in 2013 to be closer to his family after spending years going back and forth between Canada and Egypt.


He was predeceased by his father and mother, Toma Saad and Adeba Shenouda. He was also predeceased by his brothers and his sisters, Wasfi Toma, Soad Toma, Samira Toma, Samah Toma, and Tharwat Toma. He is survived by his wife Ilin Girgis whom he was married to for 59 years. He is also survived by sons Deacon Tadros (Tamer Toma), the husband of Soha Rizk, and Ehab Saad, the husband of Sheriene Doss, and his grandchildren Meena Saad, the husband of Beatrice Ibrahim, Marina Saad, Carol Toma, and Emily Toma. He is also survived by his many nieces, nephews, and cousins throughout the globe.


He was also a relative of Habib Tadros in the USA, Samir Doss in Canada and Egypt, and Rafie Rizk in Canada.


The family would like to extend their gratitude to His Eminence Metropolitan Tadros of Port Said, His Grace Bishop Mina of Mississauga and Western Canada, His Grace Bishop Boulos of Montreal, Ottawa, and Eastern Canada, Hegumen Fr. Daniel Rizg and Fr. Thomas Iskarous in Halifax, all the clergy in Ontario, the congregation at St Mena Coptic Orthodox Church, and all those who shared their condolences with the family.


The funeral service will be held on Monday August 4th, 2025 at 10:30 AM at St Mena’s Coptic Orthodox Church at 167 Willet Street, Halifax, NS, B3M 3L6. The service will be officiated by Hegumen Fr. Daniel Rizg and Fr. Thomas Iskarous, with the burial to follow immediately at Saint John’s Cemetery at 6 Bedford Highway, Halifax, NS, B3M 1C2.
