Margaret (Margie) Roach, 85

It is with heavy hearts and deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Margie Roach, 85, on July 18, 2025, in the Victoria General Hospital, Halifax, surrounded by family. Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Ed and Sarah (MacDougall) Duder.

Margie was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She enjoyed socializing with family and friends, sitting outside with the neighbours and talking to anyone she encountered. She loved going for drives and stopping for treats along the way. There is no one she loved to spend time with more than her favorite companion, Angus, her beloved cat. Margie was a member of Warden United Church, New Aberdeen.

She is survived by her loving children, her daughters Laura (Darryl) Stanwick, Nadine (Steve) Atkinson, Charla (Perry) MacInnis, stepdaughter Marilyn (Leo Kleeman), daughter-in-law Inger Roach; grandchildren: Adam, Aaron, Markus, Jonathan, and Daniel.

She is also survived by her sister Sandra (Charles) Matthews, sister-in-law Elma Duder and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by first husband Greg Smith, and her husband of 42 years Charlie Roach, as well as brothers Jackie and Allister Duder, and stepson Blenus Roach.

A Celebration of Life will be held in T.J. Tracey Funeral Home, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay on Wednesday July 30, 2025, at 11 a.m. Interment to follow in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens, Sydney Highway. Livestreaming will be available on our Facebook page for those who are unable to attend.
