We would like to share with all of Bill’s friends and loved ones the passing of Bill on July 9, at the age of 71 years. He spent his last few days at Hospice Halifax with his wife Janet Zinck and Mitzy their pet, by his side.
Bill had lived in Terrence Bay for a number of years where his friends had known him as “awesome Bill from back bay hill” with his son Nicholas Wood. Then moved to Shad Bay with his wife.
He was predeceased by his parents, John and Patricia, Halifax.
He is survived by his son, Nicholas Wood (Grande Prairie, Alberta); wife, Janet Zinck, (Shad Bay); stepson, Jeffery (Ashely); the joy of his life his grandson, Graydon Jollimore.
His sister, Jo-Anne (Mike) Mellon; nieces and nephews, Neil, Laura, Daniel, Natalie, Aaron (Mellon); great niece and nephew, Bree and Cade Mellon.
Bill was a techy kind of guy. He loved computers, science, astrology, mechanics (working on old cars with Ross and Ray), helping people solve problems. Going to the trailer was his happy place to be with family, kayaking, trawling for fish, sitting by the fire pit, doing shooters with Ashley, and listening to Ashley and Dylan play guitars, he liked talking with Nick about his work out West in the oil fields and his step-son Jeffery about different upcoming jobs that Jeffrey had and wanted advice on, he also loved when Graydon would operate the excavator. Bill and Janet would do their annual drive to Freeport Maine to do "his" annual shopping.
He has worked at a number of places in his lifetime: Halifax Hydraulics, Canada Post, Addressograph - Multigraph building computer printing equipment in the 70's; Abco Acadia in Bridgewater building engines for fishing vessels; he had a business selling and installing satellites on land and on oil rigs; drove a truck for Jollimore Trucking for a short time; then had started to work at Bedford Institute of Oceanography (BIO) for 29 years Until he retired in 2022.
I would like to thank the staff at Hospice Halifax for their kind and understanding way with Bill and I, along with giving treats to Mitzy.
To Kailee Slaunwhite for sitting with me for a few hours the night he passed.
My sister Kathy Lajoie who was my strength, and Susan Hubbard who listened to me.
To Melissa Verge, who has decorated his place of rest in his little box. A Hand painted picture of a car that he had filled with her father Ray and friend Ross. Bill would've been proud of this Melissa. Thank you so much.
To a very special man, Dr. Andrew Padmos, who had gone over and beyond his profession to be there for Bill and I through this short fight with his cancer. He was our advocate and strength to give Bill courage for fighting. I can't thank you enough for the kindness and compassion that you had shared with us throughout this ordeal. It was an honour to have you for our doctor.
In lieu of flowers please donate to the Molly fund Dalhousie University.
Bill, you will always be loved and not forgotten rest in peace
