It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Catherine A. MacLellan (nee Morrison) at the age of 92. Catherine (Kaye) passed away at Northwood Care in Halifax on July 10, 2025, surrounded by her family. Born in Glace Bay on July 23,1932 she was the daughter of John and Martha (nee MacIntyre) Morrison and was a member of St. Anne’s Church in Glace Bay and later St. Eugene's Church in Dominion.
Kaye received her “CNA” designation from Hamilton Memorial Hospital in North Sydney, earning her nurse’s cap in 1954, and was later employed at St. Joseph's Hospital in Glace Bay until her retirement. She was actively involved in her faith, undertaking religious studies at the College of Cape Breton, teaching catechism, and singing with the choir at St. Eugene’s Church in Dominion and Immaculate Conception Church in Bridgeport.
Kaye will be sadly missed by her sons, Gerard (Lynn) in Wellington, Ian (Alicia) in Sackville and Paul in Kitchener, Ontario, grandchildren Matthew, Lana, Kayla, Briana, Holly, Liam, Emily, Fraser, Tessa and seven great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents, Kaye was pre-decreased by her husband of 61 years, Joseph, brothers Fraser and Rudy, sister Marilyn and son Fraser Charles. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
In keeping with her wishes, cremation has taken place under the care of T.J. Tracey, Cremation and Burial Specialists , 71 McQuade Lake Crescent, Beechville, NS.
A celebration of Life will be held at T.J. Tracey in Beechville on Sunday, July 20, 2025 at 12 noon with a reception to follow.
A funeral mass will also be held at Immaculate Conception Church in Bridgeport on Friday, July 25, 2025, at 11 a.m. with a reception to follow.
Interment will take place afterwards at St. Anne’s Cemetery in Glace Bay.
The MacLellan Family would like to thank Dr. Claire Nowlan, Joei Uy, RN and staff at 8th floor Centre, Northwood for their care and compassion to our mother over the past several years.
