Deborah Lee Menchions, 71 of Halifax passed away July 10, 2025, at Halifax. Born in Sault St. Marie, Ontario, she was the daughter of Reginald and Pearl Gamache.

Debbie was a nurse’s assistant and worked in retail, but her crowning achievement was the 15 years she spent in Igloolik, Nunavut where she became a certified Adult Educator and has remained in touch with most of her students and the community for the 20 years since we left. Her most important job was looking after me which was no small feat especially after I developed kidney disease and started dialysis. I was not a fun person to live with sometimes.

Our best times outside of Igloolik were spent with the grandkids and cruising in our old cars around the Maritimes, we knew every back road and nook and cranny. The best days were when we got lost and ended up heaven knows were. Debbie will be remembered by those who knew her as the go to person if you wanted something done. She was one of those rare once in a lifetime people whom you can always depend on and never forgot. I was supposed to go first but as usual she got her own way. Give Pearl, Ronda and Sasha a special hug for Ellie and I. Hope I can end up wherever you guys are. Love, Me.

Debbie is survived by her husband, Donald; stepsons, Shane (Lesley), Seattle, Washington, Aaron (Kathy), Ottawa, On; niece, Dawn Marie Gamache (Halifax); grandchildren, Katelyn, Zoey, Lucas, Eva and Ellie.

She was predeceased by her mother and father; sisters, Annette and Sandra; and a brother, Gordie.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Debbie’s memory to a charity of your choice. A special Celebration of Debbie’s Life may be held at a later date.
