Gina Irene Goris-Slaunwhite Obituary

March 18, 1965 – June 26, 2025

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Gina Irene

Goris-SIaunwhite, who lost her courageous battle with cancer,

surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Gina was the beloved daughter of

Edouard and Josepha Goris (née Petitpas). She is survived by her

devoted husband, Steven Slaunwhite, sons Craig and Jason, as welI

as her cherished fur baby, Diesel. She is also survived by her brother

Daniel (Debbie), sisters Linda and Diane Erskine, and her nieces:

Marsha, Nadine, Amanda, Kiesha, and nephew: Donald, along with

many great-nieces and great-nephews.

Gina was predeceased by her parents, sister Patricia Goris, and niece Candace Goris.

Gina was incredibly proud of her sons, whom she described as hardworking, kind, and loving. She also shared a special bond with her goddaughter and niece Kiesha.

Throughout her life, Gina held various jobs, but her most meaningful role was at the World Trade and Convention Centre, where she met the love of her life, Steve, in 1988. She also worked at Sears and Walmart as a front-end manager before going back to school to earn a diploma in Medical Office Administration. She found her calling in Gastroenterology, where she built beloved friendships with Barb Currie and Kelly Phalen, who became lifelong friends.

Gina treasured time with family, remembering fondly her weekly tea dates at the Dingle with Marsha

during COVID, to joyful family gatherings hosted by Nadine, to surprise visits from Amanda that lit up her day. She loved to travel, frequently visiting the U.S. for shopping and sightseeing. Her dream trip to Australia - with Linda and Kiesha - fulfilled a lifelong wish, including the unforgettable moment of holding a koala bear. In December, she discovered the joy of cruising with her dear friends Crystal and Tony.

Her 60th birthday party was a celebration to remember- filled with laughter, love, and the company of many dear friends and family. Gina wished this celebration to serve as her farewell and requested that no official service be held. The family extends heartfelt thanks to Christina, Megan, and Kimberly for the countless hours they spent organizing this beautiful event, and to all who helped make it such a special day.

We also extend our gratitude to the Palliative Care Team, the Nova Scotia Cancer Centre, and Dr. Ruth Turner for the exceptional care and compassion shown to Gina.

In lieu of lowers, the family asks that donations be made to a charity close to your heart- just as Gina lived her life, full of compassion and care for others.
