Glace Bay

It is with profound sadness that we, the family of Robert Green, announce his sudden passing at the at age 61, on July 7, 2025, at the Glace Bay Hospital surrounded by his loving family.

Robert was born in Miramichi, NB, he was the son of the late Frank and Helen (Bransfield) Green.

From a young age, Robert found his love for the ocean, which led him to a proud 43-year career as a lobster fisherman. He cherished his time on the water with his late brother Gordie and took great pride in mentoring his special nephew Ben, who will carry on the fishing spirit. Robert was a great captain and yes, a little cranky at times but we loved him even more for it.

He could always be found at the rink, watching his pride and joy, his grandson Caleb, on the ice from his usual seat at the Dominion Rink. Saturday nights were spent passionately cheering (and often yelling) at the TV while watching his beloved Toronto Maple Leafs, with his loyal sidekick Maggie by his side. Sundays brought a quiet stroll around the wharf, walking off the week’s frustration with Maggie leading the way.

Robert is survived by the love of his life, Tracey (Neary) Green; his son, Curtis; daughters, Caitlin and Courtney; ; cherished grandson, Caleb; brother Steven; sisters, Margaret (John) Burke, Barb (the late Grant Hynes) and Carroll Ann (Kevin) Covin; sisters-in-law, Margaret Ann Green and Wanda Green (Adrian); special little buddy Jaxson as well as many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Frank and Helen, Robert was predeceased by his brother Gordie, infant sister, Catherine Janet; parents -in-law, Linda and Pat Neary and his cherished companion Molly.

Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held Monday, July 14, 2025, from 1-2 p.m. a celebration of life will follow at 2:00 p.m. with Fr. Norman MacPhee presiding all taking place at T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay, NS (902-849-4199).

Family flowers only. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Glace Bay Minor Hockey Association a cause close to Robert’s heart.

The family would like to thank the Cape Breton Regional Hospital and the QE 11, Health Sciences, Halifax, for the excellent care given to Robert. Thank you to the EHS for your compassion. A very special thank you to Shannon McCormack and Ron Hill for their quick response and kindness given to Robert and his family during this most difficult time, and a special thanks to Adrian Gallagher for his kindness and support given to Robert.
