Richard ‘Rick” Edward Kelly

It is with heavy hearts that we, the family announce the passing of Rick Kelly on Saturday, July 5, 2025, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital surrounded by family.

Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of late Edward ‘Brother’ and Catherine ‘Kit’ (White) Kelly.

Rick was employed as an electrician with the Cape Breton Development Corporation and later Lynk Electric.

He was involved with MacKay’s Corner Boys Scouts, volunteered with Glace Bay Minor Hockey; he enjoyed a good game of darts and golfing with the boys every day. He loved traveling to Cuba.

Rick is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Lynn (McDonald); two sons, Mark (Cherri) and Lorne; his precious grandchildren, Kyle, Ryan and Sophia; two brothers, Sandy (Kelley) and Russell; sisters, Ginny (Doug) and Nancy (late Blaine) as well as several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Brother and Kit; he was predeceased by his in-laws, Mary and Raymond McDonald.

Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, from 6 to 8 p.m. A memorial service will take place Thursday, July 10, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. all taking place at T.J. Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 370 Reserve St., Glace Bay, NS (902-849-4199).

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cape Breton Cancer Centre or Palliative Care.
