With great sadness, we announce the passing of Marian "Ellen" Sheehan, aged 70, in Halifax, Nova Scotia, on June 29, 2025. Ellen passed peacefully in hospital, surrounded by her loving family.

Born in St. John’s and raised in Mount Pearl, Newfoundland, Ellen, a beloved mother, sister, grandmother, and friend, was a spirited and compassionate woman whose wit and fiery spirit touched everyone she knew. Ellen cherished family and friend gatherings in the Bailey kitchen playing cards and trivia games. She loved a hot sunny beach, and her curious mind shone as an avid reader.

After a lengthy career in banking, Ellen pursued her calling by returning to college to become a dedicated Continuing Care Assistant. She devoted herself to her work, forming deep bonds with her clients. Even after retiring due to vision loss, she missed her work daily, a testament to her passion for providing dignity to those in their final days.

She is survived by her longtime friend and companion, Mike Venedam; her children, Michael Sheehan, Julie Sheehan (Craig) and Krista Edwards; her brothers and sisters, Anne, Patsy (Keith), Robert (Krista), Joan (Les), Sue (Ward), David (Jackie); her grandchildren, Keziah, Amanda and Matthew.

Cremation has occurred and in honoring Ellen’s wishes, no visitation will be held. An intimate gathering to celebrate her life will take place at her family home in Mount Pearl.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian National Institute for the Blind are welcomed.
