Rosemary Cumming Obituary
With broken hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, wife, grandmother, sister and aunt, Marsha “Rosemary” Cumming, on July 2, 2025.
Born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, on April 23, 1941, Rosemary was the heart of our family and a constant source of warmth, love, and laughter. She is survived by her devoted husband of nearly 61 years Rev. Paul Cumming, who lovingly stood by her side through every chapter of life. Their enduring partnership was a beautiful example of love and togetherness, having shared six decades of marriage.
She leaves behind her daughters, Rebecca Cumming (Pat Rouselle) and Lindsey MacKay (Kevin MacKay), as well as her cherished grandchildren: Kalum, Ganden, Laurel, Reid, and Cian, who were each a source of immense pride and joy. Also survived by her brother, Brian Sweet (Olette Sweet). Rosemary also held deep affection for her extended family and the many nieces, nephews, and fur babies who brought light into her life.
To Rosemary, family was everything. Whether it was travelling across Europe on unforgettable summer adventures, or gathering at Rebecca and Pat’s cottage at Chandos Lake, or hosting their annual family reunion at their beautiful seaside home, she relished every moment spent together. Christmas was a magical time, when Rosemary and Paul would arrive bearing armfuls of gifts—often in oversized garbage bags—delighting their grandchildren year after year.
She had a passion for discovering treasures in thrift stores and took joy in refinishing furniture in her earlier years. She loved touring her daughters’ homes, always noticing what was new, and wanted to hear every detail about their lives, projects, and accomplishments.
Rosemary studied Arts at Mount Allison University and went on to study Education at Dalhousie University. She married the love of her life, Paul, in 1964, and together they built a life full of love, adventure, and unwavering commitment.
Those who knew Rosemary often described her as an angel on earth. Her gentle spirit, kind nature, and sweet laugh left a lasting impression on everyone she met. She gave her love freely and fully—and was deeply loved in return.
Her absence leaves a hole in our hearts that can never be filled, but her memory will remain a guiding light for all of us.
Special thanks to Dr. Maria Lang for her excellent care and making countless house calls and answering texts.
Dr. Daniel Rayson who gave us two additional years.
Heartfelt thanks to Karen Gall, Debbie Henderson, and Melodie Quigley for all their love and devotion.
Funeral will take place at William Black United Church in Glen Margaret, N.S on August 23rd, 2025 at 2pm. Reception to follow.
